RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The Stanford women’s golf team split a pair of matches Tuesday in the SDSU March Mayhem at The Farms Golf Club.
After opening with a 3-2 victory against Texas State on Monday, Stanford’s second round match against Arizona State was suspended by darkness and completed Tuesday morning. The teams halved the match at 2.5-2.5, with the fourth-seeded Cardinal advancing on a tiebreaker to face top-seeded USC in the semifinals.
The Trojans, ranked second nationally, registered a 4-1 win.
Senior Lauren Kim and sophomore Shannon Aubert collected second-round victories for Stanford, while junior Casey Danielson halved her match. Kim prevailed 1-up against Sophia Zeeb thanks to a final-hole birdie, while Aubert posted a 6 and 5 triumph over Madison Kerley, finishing 2-over par.
Kim was the lone winner against USC, edging Victoria Morgan, 2 and 1. She was 3-up at the turn and closed with eight straight pars.
Senior Mariah Stackhouse fell to Robynn Ree, 4 and 3. Ree carded five birdies and never trailed.
Junior Quirine Eijkenboom lost a tough 1-down match to Amy Lee. Eijkenboom started with 10-consecutive pars, but was 1-down after 15 holes. She evened the match with a par at the 16th hole, halved the 17th, then succumbed when Lee birdied the par-5 18th.
No. 11 Stanford will meet second-seeded and No. 6 UCLA on Wednesday in the consolation finals of the championship bracket. For live scoring, visit gostanford.com.
