STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford, the defending Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Champions, will begin defense of its title this weekend when the Cardinal hosts UC Santa Barbara and Western Washington Saturday (March 26) at Redwood Shores.
Stanford will begin competition against UC Santa Barbara with the varsity eight race at 10:30 a.m. PT. The Cardinal and Gauchos will square off in the second varsity eight at 10:50 a.m. PT.
Later in the day, Stanford will meet Western Washington. The Cardinal and the Vikings will face off in the varsity eight at 4:30 p.m. PT, followed by the second varsity eight race at 4:50 p.m. PT.
Stanford looks to continue its excellence enjoyed on the water in head coach Derek Byrnes’ first season at the helm of the Cardinal in 2015. The varsity eight completed the 20015 campaign undefeated, winning 11 races last spring, en route to the national championship.
Four members of last season’s IRA-winning varsity eight return in seniors Brittany Presten and Katherine Christel, junior Christine Cavallo, and sophomore Keagan Hanley.
Saturday’s Pac-12 Challenge will be the Cardinal’s lone competition at Redwood Shores this spring.
