STANFORD, Calif. – The women’s synchronized swimming team celebrated senior day on Saturday by sweeping events against Arizona and Arizona State in the Western Regional Championships at the rainy Avery Aquatic Center.
“The student-athletes had very strong performances,” said head coach Sara Lowe. “I was happy with how well the speed and intricacy of the routines was received.”
Clare McGovern won the solo free routine with a score of 85.2667. Erica Slavin and Sandra Ortellado sparkled in the duet free with a point total of 85.6667, earning 34.6667 for artistic improvisation. Stanford finished first and second in the trio free routine, with the group of Slavin, McGovern and Ortellado posting 85.3667, followed by Evelyna Wang, Marisa Tashima and Amanda Urke at 82.5333.
In the team free routine, Wang, Tashima, Slavin, McGovern, Ortellado, Urke, Rachel Hyon and Isabella Park recorded a winning score of 86.8333, receiving 34.9333 for artistic improvisation, 26.1000 for difficulty and 25.8000 for execution. Rina Horii, Shiree Lee, Dylan Harding, Mady Duboc, Joanna Langner, Elle Billman and Gillian Brassil placed second at 83.8833.
“They continue to amaze me with their high level of motivation,” Lowe said. “They work hard together and really push themselves.”
Stanford concludes the season on March 23 at the Collegiate National Championships in Gainesville, Florida.
