Cardinal Making Moves

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Stanford men’s golf team signed off on the only red scorecard Tuesday during the second round of the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Cardinal teamed to go 3-under on the par-70 layout and overtake Oregon for the top spot among the 14-team field.

Stanford takes a three-shot lead over the Ducks heading into Wednesday’s final round. Live results will be available at GoStanford.com.

The Cardinal was aided largely by Maverick McNealy’s masterful round of 64. The junior All-American was 1-under through 10 holes, and then birdied four straight. He added a birdie on his final hole for good measure in his one-bogey round.

McNealy is 10-under through 36 holes and trails only Oregon’s Aaron Wise (-11) in the medalist race.

Franklin Huang followed his opening 68 with a 71, and David Boote moved up 45 spots with a 4-under 66. Boote, tied for 14th at even-par, rolled in five birdies to give the Cardinal a much needed boost.

Viraat Badhwar stayed among the top 25 with a 2-over 72. Brandon Wu was 4-over with a 74 and Jeffrey Swegle finished with a 75.

Bradley Knox (72) and Dominick Francks (71) represented the Cardinal as individuals.
