Kim Wins Scholar-Athlete Award

PLEASANTON, Calif. – Stanford senior Lauren Kim was named the 2015-16 Pac-12 Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday. A science, technology and society major from Los Altos, California, she received the award following completion of the Pac-12 Championships at Ruby Hill Golf Club.

A WGCA first team All-America the last two years, Kim leads the Cardinal with a 71.60 scoring average and is ranked the No. 3 collegiate player in the country by Golfweek/Sagarin. She has a 3.29 GPA and will graduate in June.

Kim becomes the second Stanford women’s golfer to earn the honor since its establishment in 2007-08. Sally Watson won the award in 2012-13.

"She's the epitome of a scholar-athlete," said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf at Stanford. "She works hard at both to be successful and has great balance."

A three-time All-Pac 12 selection, and first team pick the last two years, Kim has six top 10 finishes this season, highlighted by a second-place showing two weeks ago at the Silverado Showdown. She has not finished outside the top 20 and has fired six sub-70 rounds, topped by a final-round 67 to lead the Cardinal to victory in the Stanford Intercollegiate.

Kim earned a team-best fie for 20th on Wednesday.

Kim is the fifth Stanford student-athlete to be recognized in 2015-16. Previous winners include Aisling Cuffe (women’s cross country), Brandon Vincent (men’s soccer), Gray Umbach (men’s swimming), and Jordan Burgess (women’s volleyball).
