CHICAGO - Joshua Garnett was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Garnett was the 28th pick of the round.
Garnett is Stanford’s latest first-round pick and 22nd in program history.
"I couldn't be more excited to be a 49er," Garnett said. "It's a dream come true to stay in the Bay."
A native of Puyallup, Washington, the offensive guard was unanimous first team All-America in 2015, only the ninth in school history. He was the program’s first Outland Trophy winner as the nation’s top interior lineman, and won the Morris Trophy, presented to the Pac-12 Lineman of the Year.

Garnett is a human biology major who wants to become a trauma surgeon after his playing career, and served as Cardinal team captain in 2015. He started all 14 games at left guard, helping pave the way for record-setting running back and AP Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey.
As a junior, Garnett started 13 games on a line ranked 18th nationally in tackles for loss (4.62/game) and 42nd in sacks allowed (1.77/game).
During his sophomore campaign, Garnett started all 14 games at left guard and in jumbo packages. The group helped Stanford rank 22nd in rushing offense (207.4 yards/game), 11th in sacks allowed (1.14/game), and seventh in tackles for loss allowed (4.14/game).
He was one of three freshmen to start on the offensive line, along with Kyle Murphy and Andrus Peat, the most since 2000. Garnett appeared in all 14 games.
