STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was unable to overcome an early deficit and dropped the series opener against No. 13/14 Washington, 9-0, in six innings Thursday evening.
The Huskies (34-13, 14-8 Pac-12) scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back. Stanford (13-33, 0-22 Pac-12) had trouble figuring out former teammate and Washington starting pitcher Madi Schreyer (11-4), managing just one hit and three walks.
Haley Snyder (7-14) got the start in the circle for the Cardinal and was relieved by Carolyn Lee in the second inning. Lee did well to limit the Huskies' offense after the second inning and permitted four runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Kayla Bonstrom produced Stanford's lone hit of the game, while Kaitlin Schaberg, Lauren Wegner and Arden Pettit drew a walk apiece.

Washington jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning, producing two home runs, a sacrifice fly and an RBI-single.
Washington added to its lead in the top of the fourth inning when Ali Aguilar hit an RBI-single up the middle to give the Huskies a 6-0 advantage.
The Huskies completed the run-rule victory in the sixth, rallying for three runs to take a 9-0 advantage. The Cardinal could not generate the runs needed in the bottom half of the inning to keep the game going.
Stanford looks to even the series Friday at 3 p.m. (PT). The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
