Opening Statement

MARANA, Ariz. – Four Stanford men’s golfers finished under par as the Cardinal grabbed the lead Monday in the opening round of the NCAA Tucson Regional Championships at The Gallery Golf Club.

Stanford’s 14-under-par, nine strokes better than second-place UAB, was good enough for first overall through 18 holes.

Franklin Huang shot 5-under 67 and sits one shot back of individual leader Matt Lutz of UC Riverside.

Stanford received bogey-free rounds from Maverick McNealy (-4) and David Boote (-3). McNealy eagled the par-5 16th to move into a tie for fourth among individuals, and Boote ranked seventh.

Along with Brandon Wu’s 70, and the Cardinal boasts four players in the top 10. Wu is tied for 10th.

The top five teams after 54 holes of play advance to the NCAA Championships.
