MARANA, Ariz. – Stanford saw its lead grow at the NCAA Tucson Regional Championships contested at The Gallery, as the Cardinal was one of only two teams to shoot under par Tuesday.
Stanford, 18-under through 36 holes, went 4-under to take a 15-shot advantage over second-place Oregon in the team race. Franklin Huang used five birdies to post a 3-under 69 and grab the lead in the medalist standings. Huang eyes his first collegiate win as the 54-hole tournament concludes Wednesday.
The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Huang was 2-under on the front and notched a pair of birdies on the back, bogeying the par-4 eighth and par-3 12th to move to 8-under overall. He moved up from second after his opening round and holds a one-stroke lead over Lee Hodges (UAB) and Thomas Lim (Oregon).
Maverick McNealy went 1-under and sits at 5-under overall, fourth among individuals. He was 2-over through seven before belting three birdies over the final 11 holes.
David Boote moved up to fifth with an even-par showing and Jeffrey Swegle (t-13th) contributed his second straight even-par round.
Brandon Wu was 3-over on the day and 17th overall.
