STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford senior Meg Lentz and junior Kelsey Murray were named All-Americans as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Murray, a dynamic and explosive attacker, was named to the second team and Lentz, a fast and athletic defender, was a third-team selection. This is the first All-America honor for each.
Murray and Anderson become the eighth and ninth IWLCA All-Americans in Stanford history, joining Megan Burker (2006), Laura Shane (2006-08), Lauren Schmidt (2010-11), Leslie Foard (2011), Hannah Farr (2014), Lucy Dikeou (2015) and Adrienne Anderson (2015). Lentz is only the second Stanford defender to be named an All-American along with Anderson.
Murray, a psychology major, was the lynchpin of the Cardinal’s offense, as she led Stanford in goals, assists and points as well as ranked second in the MPSF in goals per game and fourth in assists per game. Murray collected at least a point in every single game this season and scored five goals on three separate occasions. In addition to the IWLCA honor, she was named to the All MPSF First Team. Her 72 points on the year tie her for second all-time in Stanford single-season records with Rachel Ozer in 2013.
Lentz, a political science major, led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers while holding Julia Glynn of Harvard scoreless. Lentz proved to be integral on the draw control as well, winning nine in Stanford’s win over San Diego State, while tying with Kelly Myers for the lead on the team with 50. In addition to the IWLCA honor, Lentz was named to the All MPSF First Team as well as to the MPSF All-Tournament Team.
Together, they helped lead Stanford to a 15-5 record and its second NCAA tournament victory in program history. Stanford advanced to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in seven years.
