TULSA, Okla. – The Stanford Men's Tennis team's season came to a close Thursday, as Tom Fawcett finished his run in the Singles Championship and Fawcett and Maciek Romanowicz fell to the No. 1 seeded Florida duo of Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson.
Fawcett defeated Duke’s 22nd-ranked Nicolas Alvarez 6-2, 6-3 to notch his first career win in NCAA Singles Championship competition.
The run ended in a gritty three-set match with the 39th-ranked Gustav Hansson of Ole Miss that Fawcett stormed back in the second set, only to fall 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Fawcett paired up with his Cardinal teammate, Maciek Romanowicz later in the day to face off against the top-seeded Florida duo of Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson. The Gators took off with a 6-3 win in the first set that the Cardinal matched in the second only to see Florida usurp Stanford in the tiebreak to end Stanford's season.
