PRINCETON, N.J. – Seven members of the Stanford men's rowing program have been named to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) All-Academic Team, the IRA's Board of Stewards announced.
Senior Landon Alecxih, who completed his undergraduate coursework with a cumulative grade-point average of 4.046, earned his second IRA All-Academic selection. He rowed in the varsity four at the IRA Championships. The 2016 Pac-12 Men's Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year graduated in June with a degree in economics.
Alecxih was joined on the IRA All-Academic Team by Ardsley Sanders, Erik Holmvik, Ryan Hails, Ryan O'Rourke, Will Spencer and Will Nuelle.
Holmvik was recognized on the IRA All-Academic squad for the second year in a row, while Sanders, Hails, O'Rourke, Spencer and Nuelle were first-time honorees.
Sanders served as the coxswain, while Hails, O'Rourke and Nuelle each rowed in the varsity eight, which placed eighth in the IRA Championships earlier this month.
Holmvik and Spencer were each members of the varsity four at the IRA Championships.
To be eligible for recognition, a student-athlete must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.35 or higher, completed one full year at their institution, be an institutional letter winner and competed at the 2016 IRA National Championship Regatta.
In all, 336 student-athletes from 37 member institutions were recognized.
