STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford registered another successful season as Tara Danielson continues to build the field hockey program into one of the nation's elite.
The Cardinal punched its sixth ticket to the NCAA Tournament in Danielson's seven years at the helm, while recording a 13-7 record. Stanford claimed a co-championship of the America East West Division with a 4-2 regular season conference record in its inaugural year in the America East.
Danielson also reached a career milestone in the season, collecting her 100th career win as the Cardinal defeated UC Davis 5-1 on October 23.
In addition, the Cardinal also topped four ranked opponents this season, including No. 5 Duke, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 15 Iowa and No. 19 Maine. Stanford ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation for three consecutive weeks, while going 4-3 on the year against top-20 opponents.
Stanford's senior class of Lauren Becker, Jessica Chisholm, Clemence Couteau, Dulcie Davies, Catherine Dawson and Maddie Secco completed their collegiate careers with a 64-21 record – including the best record in program history in 2014 with a 19-3 record and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory.
The defense again proved to be the lynchpin for the Cardinal this season, as it ranked 3rd in save percentage (.803) and 6th in goals against average (1.19) in the NCAA. Dulcie Davies showcased her prowess yet again in goal, collecting the America East Goalkeeper of the Year award as well as being named to the America East First Team and the Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Second Team.
Maddie Secco proved to be the difference-maker for the Cardinal on offense as she collected a Longstreth/NFHCA Second Team All-America honors. Secco finished the season ranked in three categories in the NCAA: Assists Per Game (13th), Points Per Game (61st) and Goals Per Game (121st).
The future remains extremely bright for the Cardinal, which expects to return 15 letterwinners, while adding six elite recruits, including three ranked in the Mac Field Hockey Top 50 Player Ranking. • The Cardinal saw 10 named to the America East Honor Roll (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and four awarded the Commissioner's Honor Roll (GPA of 3.5 or higher)
• Stanford saw eight named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National AcademicSquad (3.30 GPA or higher through the first semester of the academic year
• Held advantages over opponents in shots (287-190), penalty corners (111-107) and goals(46-24)
• Finished ranked in the top-25 in the NCAA in six categories, including: save percentage(3rd), goals against average (6th), shutouts per game (16th), winning percentage (18th), scoring margin (19th) and assists per game (24th)
