STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was well-represented on the 2016 College Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar-Athlete list with 13 student-athletes earning recognition, as announced by the organization.
The Cardinal placed nine individuals on the first team, highlighted by Jonathan Deaton, Brian Knott and Dennis Zaremski all collecting their fourth consecutive first-team selection – giving the Cardinal three of the 12 athletes honored in the NCAA for all four years of their careers. Stanford also placed four on the second team.
As a team, Stanford registered the second-highest team GPA in the country with a 3.427, trailing only William and Mary (3.512).
Stanford first-team representatives include Jacob Barrus, Drew Burton, Jonathan Deaton, Brian Knott, Robert Neff, Taylor Seaton, Luke Sturm, Drew Willoughby and Dennis Zaremski.
Second-team selections include Gabe Flores, Andrew Misiolek, Akash Modi, and Ryan Sheppard.
The CGA selected 81 gymnasts to the first team, earning a GPA of 3.50-4.0, while naming 53 gymnasts to the second team who tallied a GPA of 3.20-3.49.
Stanford continued to showcase its status as one of the nation's elite programs in 2016, earning its ninth top-three finish at the NCAA Championships in the past 11 seasons.
The Cardinal completed the season with a second-place finish at the national championships. Stanford went 24-3, registering 18 wins over top-10 opponents, including nine ranked in the top five. Three Cardinal gymnasts combined for seven All-America honors and two earned three NCAA titles.
