STANFORD, Calif. - No. 11 Stanford opens up the 2016 season and begins a three-game homestand as it takes on the first of five ranked opponents Friday when it plays host to No. 3 UConn at 4 p.m. (PT).

A Look Back
• No. 13 Stanford advanced to the semifinals of its first America East Tournament topping Vermont 5-2 before falling 2-1 (OT) to No. 17 Maine. In addition the Cardinal advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in program history. The Cardinal was defeated by No. 6 Duke 1-0 in OT.

Varsity Spells Victory
• Most teams like to play at home in the comfy confines of their own stadium. The Cardinal LOVES Varsity Turf. Under head coach Tara Danielson, Stanford has a home record of 46-9 - an incredible 84% winning percentage. As for home openers? Danielson is 4-2 - including last year's 2-1 loss to reigning NCAA Champion Syracuse in OT. The Cardinal's response? A 3-2 win in OT over No. 5 Duke... at home.

In the Polls
• The Cardinal checked in at No. 11 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll. The preseason ranking is the second-highest in program history.

Dogfight!
• The Cardinal have faced off with the potent UConn Huskies seven times in program history - and only claiming one win against them with a 3-1 win on the road in Storrs, Conn.

Summer....Vacation??
• The Cardinal never rests on its laurels - the offseason is just another season to train. So what have our crafty Card been up to? Read on...

Best in the West
• While the argument exists that most of the NCAA's powerhouse programs are in the east - no one can deny that Stanford is THE powerhouse of the west. The Cardinal has made more NCAA tournament appearances than any other program in the west - while also making consistent appearances on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll... as the sole west coast team.

In addition, Stanford was selected for the second consecutive year as favorites in the America East West Division.

Coaching Milestones
• Tara Danielson's tenure on the farm has showcased success nearly unparalleled in Stanford Field Hockey. In just six seasons she has become the second winningest coach in program history - second behind only Sheryl Johnson, who led the program for 18 years to 165 wins. Danielson currently sits at 96 wins... in SIX years. This year Danielson will lead the Cardinal to her 100th career win at Stanford - at least if history tells us anything - Danielson has never posted a win total of less than 13 in a season in her career at Stanford.

Game of Numbers
• 10 - Consecutive games that the Cardinal have allowed two or less goals (last was vs. UConn 10/25/15)

• 2013 - Last time Stanford opened its season against UConn - a 2-1 loss

• 4-2 - Stanford's record in home openers under Danielson

• 46-9 - Career record in home matches for Danielson
