Cardinal Named IWLCA Zag Sports Merit Squad

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford women's lacrosse was named the 2016 IWLCA Zag Sports Merit Squad for Division I as announced by the IWLCA. The designation is awarded to the team in each division with the highest team GPA for the year. In addition, the Cardinal also saw 14 members of the 2016 team named to the honor roll – more than any team in all of collegiate women's lacrosse.

On the honor, head coach Amy Bokker stated, "We are so proud of the efforts of our student-athletes in the classroom and on the field.  The team truly embraces the excellence of Stanford University and understands the importance of the student-athlete experience.  They are committed and driven young women in every aspect and it continues to make us all work hard to represent our program and Stanford to the highest extent possible."

Each year, the IWLCA recognizes programs who have compiled a team grade-point average of at least 3.0. The Cardinal compiled a 3.619 team GPA to post the highest GPA of all Division I women's lacrosse programs.

Cardinal saw every member of the 2016 team post a cumulative GPA's over 3.00, with 24 of 30 posting GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

Stanford finished 15-5 and made its 19th consecutive conference championship final before advancing to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in seven years and winning its second NCAA Tournament game in program history.
