Weekend Sweep

SAN DIEGO – Make it a weekend sweep for Stanford men's water polo.
 
The Cardinal posted a pair of wins on Sunday in the UCLA Invitational, held at Cathedral Catholic High School, defeating Chapman (18-1) and Redlands (15-4) to complete a 4-0 weekend. On Saturday at the Triton Invitational on the UC San Diego campus, Stanford downed UCSD (15-5) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (15-3).
 
Junior Cody Smith led the way in the victory over Chapman, scoring five goals for the Cardinal. Mitchell Mendoza, Blake Parrish, Justin Roberto, Adam Warmoth and Bennett Williams each added a pair of scores in the win. Freshman Andrew Chun made his collegiate debut, starting and playing the entire match in the cage. He posted nine saves.
 
Parrish led Stanford offensively against Redlands, scoring six goals against the Bulldogs. Chun again played the entire match in goal, registering eight saves.
 
Stanford will host No. 8 UC Irvine in its home opener next Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. PT at Avery Aquatics Center.
