STANFORD, Calif. - No. 8 Stanford’s schedule figures to be one of its most challenging in recent memory, as evidenced by its first road trip of the season.
Included in Stanford’s trek to Nashville, Tenn., is an early-season test against defending NCAA champion and top-ranked Vanderbilt (Saturday, 9 a.m. PT), which won its first two matches last weekend. Stanford will be facing the nation’s top team for the first time since knocking off No. 1 Florida 4-3 on May 20, 2013 in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships. It’s also a rematch from last season, when Stanford defeated Vanderbilt 4-3 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Also included in the road swing is a neutral-site contest against No. 25 Mississippi (Friday, 9 a.m. PT), which also enters the weekend 2-0.
Stanford (1-0) opened its season on Monday with a 7-0 shutout of Santa Clara.
The Cardinal is well represented in the national singles rankings, with Taylor Davidson (10-4 overall, 1-0 duals) ranked No. 20 and Caroline Doyle (8-3 overall, 1-0 duals) at No. 39. Meanwhile, Davidson and Doyle (13-1 overall, 1-0 dual) are also ranked No. 10 as a doubles team.
