Big Commits for Squash

STANFORD, Calif. – The fifth-ranked Stanford women’s squash team received a boost before the holiday break when it was announced that high school standouts Chole Chemtob from Winter Park, Florida and Casey Wong from Ruxton, Maryland have committed to play for the Cardinal next fall.

Chemtob is No. 1 in the country in the latest GU19 U.S. Squash Rankings, while Wong is rated No. 2. It marks the first time in program history that Stanford has recruited a top-five player.

“We are extremely excited,” said head coach Mark Talbott. “Both have been at the top of their age group rankings for the past five years and have extensive international tournament experience playing for the U.S. National Team.”

Also joining the squad is Julia Gillette from Lake Forest, Illinois. Her sister, Carolyn, is a senior and team captain for the Cardinal.

“It is the strongest recruiting class in our history,” Talbott said.

Stanford began the 2015-16 season by posting a 6-1 record during a three-day East Coast road trip in mid-November. The highlight was a 5-4 victory against second-ranked Trinity, the program’s first-ever win against a top three opponent.

The Cardinal return to competition Jan. 16-17 at second-ranked Pennsylvania and seventh-ranked Columbia, respectively.
