CORVALLIS, Ore. – Late heroics by Averie Collins propelled Stanford to a 3-2 victory Friday night at Oregon State.
The sophomore forward scored her second goal of the match with two seconds remaining in regulation to secure the win for the Cardinal (12-1-1, 5-1 Pac-12). It was her fourth goal of the season, eclipsing her total of three from a year ago.
The victory marks the 300th career victory for Stanford head coach Ratcliffe. Of his 300 career wins, 245 have been with Stanford – 168 more victories than the next most winningest head coach in program history.
Collins' late goal secured a wet and physical victory with rain falling throughout the match. The Beavers were shown four yellow cards in the second half and committed 16 fouls to Stanford's eight. Stanford battled through the conditions and held advantages in shots (20-3) and shots on goal (7-2).
Stanford faced a deficit for the third straight game after not trailing through the first 11 games this season when Oregon State's Nikki Faris scored on a chip shot at 10:33.
Collins leveled the score before halftime with her third goal of the year, finishing a cross by Sam Tran in the 42nd minute.
Oregon State retook the lead in the 57th minute on a goal from the outside of the penalty box to the top corner by Taylor Lemmond.
Stanford leveled the score for a second time in the 78th minute when MAC Hermann Trophy candidate, Andi Sullivan, converted a penalty kick to knot the score at, 2-2.
Collins scored her second goal of the game with two seconds remaining to provide the decisive tally and secure a regulation victory for the Cardinal.
Stanford will return home for its final two regular-season home games next week when it plays host to Colorado on Thursday at 6 p.m. (PT) and Utah on Sunday at 1 p.m.
