STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford junior forward Corey Baird was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for games from Oct. 10 to Oct. 16 the conference announced Tuesday.
The honor is the third of Baird's career, the second of the season for the Cardinal and Stanford 26th all-time player of the week selection.
Stanford scored six combined goals in its two wins over then-No. 25 San Diego State and then-No. 17 UCLA and Baird had a direct hand in three of them, tallying his first three assists of the season.
The junior, who was second in the country in assists as a sophomore, set up Foster Langsdorf and Tomas Hilliard-Arce in the Cardinal's 3-1 victory over the Aztecs on Thursday. On Sunday, his assist of Sam Werner's goal in the 66th minute started a 15-minute barrage that propelled Stanford to a 3-0 win over the Bruins.
Baird now has 20 assists in 55 career matches, a total which is ninth in program history. He is also tied for 12th among active NCAA players in that category.
After starting the year 0-1-3, Stanford has gone 8-1-0 in its last nine games and outscored its opponents 21-5. The Cardinal is a perfect 5-0 in conference, has scored nine times and allowed just one goal.
Baird's other Pac-12 weekly honors came on Nov. 3 and Nov. 10, 2014.
No. 12 Stanford is in Southern California for its next two matches. The Cardinal plays at San Diego State on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and is at No. 24 UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. The game in Westwood will be televised on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Los Angeles with Christian Miles and Cobi Jones on the call.
