MPSF Newcomer of the Week

STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Bennett Williams has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Williams led Stanford offensively this past week with four goals in two matches. He scored a pair of goals each against No. 7 UC Santa Barbara and No. 8 Pepperdine.

In the 9-5 victory over the Waves on Sunday, he was the lone Cardinal with multiple scores in the match. His goal in the first quarter broke a 1-1 tie and put Stanford ahead of Pepperdine for good in the Cardinal's 9-5 win.

Williams has scored in 11 of Stanford's 15 matches and leads all freshmen with 18 goals on the year. The scoring total ranks fourth on the team this season.

The MPSF honor for Williams, the first of his career, marks the fourth time a Cardinal has been recognized in the weekly awards this season. Sophomores Blake Parrish and Mitchell Mendoza were named the Player of the Week on Oct. 10 and Sept. 5, respectively. Freshman Andrew Chun was named the Newcomer of the Week on Sept. 5.

Stanford (12-3, 0-1 MPSF) will return to MPSF play this weekend, when the Cardinal heads to Los Angeles to face top-ranked UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11:30 a.m. PT. The match will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.

The Cardinal will face No. 4 Pacific in its final home match of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. PT at Avery Aquatic Center.
