Cardinal Recognized for Classroom Work

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Thursday with the College Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 academic year.
 
A total of 892 soccer teams (315 men, 577 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to earn recognition. Stanford was one of 221 schools to have both its men's and women's soccer programs recognized.
 
The Cardinal posted a cumulative 3.39 GPA during 2015-16 and is one of only two Pac-12 men's soccer programs on the list (Oregon State). Stanford's cumulative GPA tied for 35th among collegiate men's soccer programs across all NCAA divisions last year.
 
Last fall, Stanford boasted an NSCAA Scholar Second Team All-American in senior co-captain Ty Thompson, two NSCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-West Region honorees in Thompson and Andrew Epstein, two CoSIDA Academic All-American Division I third teamers in Epstein and Eric Verso and four CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 selections in Thompson, Epstein, Verso and Drew Skundrich.
 
Co-captain Brandon Vincent was named a Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American for his accomplishments in the classroom and community, and on the field and was also voted the 2015 Pac-12 Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
The Cardinal had 14 players earn Pac-12 all-academic recognition last season, tying a school record.
 
This year's squad is back in action tonight at 7 p.m. against No. 16 Washington in Seattle. Rich Burk and Kelly Gray will have the call on Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Washington.
