Weekend Pair at Avery

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford men's water polo hosts a pair of matches at Avery Aquatic Center this weekend. In a top-six matchup, the Cardinal will welcome No. 6 Long Beach State to The Farm on Saturday at 1 p.m. Stanford will close the weekend with a Sunday contest against San Jose State, also slated for 1 p.m.

Winners of three straight, Stanford is 9-2 on the season overall. The Cardinal defeated Santa Clara, 21-7, on the road Wednesday night. This weekend will be the first matches at Avery Aquatic Center in 21 days since hosting USC on Sept. 17.

Sophomore Blake Parrish leads the Cardinal attack with 28 goals on the season. He scored a career-best seven goals in Wednesday's victory over Santa Clara. Parrish has scored at least one goal in 10 of the 11 contests, with multiple scores in nine matches.

Stanford and Long Beach State have already squared off once this season, with the Cardinal earning an 8-6 victory over the 49ers in Berkeley, California on Sept. 25.

The Cardinal has also faced San Jose State once this season, recording a 20-6 victory over the Spartans in Walnut Creek, California on Sept. 23.

Stanford will try and give The Dunlevie Family Director of Men's Water Polo, John Vargas, his 300th career coaching victory this weekend. The 15th-year Cardinal head coach owns a 299-91 career coaching record on The Farm.

Following this weekend's homestand, Stanford will have one more regular-season home match, as the Cardinal hosts Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 5.
