Stanford Downs Santa Clara, 21-7

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford scored a season-high 21 goals in defeating No. 20 Santa Clara, 21-7, Wednesday evening at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
After taking an 8-2 advantage into halftime, the Cardinal exploded for eight goals in the third quarter alone to build a 16-3 lead heading into the final period. Stanford improved to 9-2 on the season with the victory, while the Broncos moved to 5-9.
 
The Cardinal's 21 goals Wednesday evening surpassed its previous season-best total of 20 in a win over San Jose State on Sept. 23.
 
Sophomore Blake Parrish scored a career-high seven goals for Stanford, which captured its third straight victory.
 
Parrish now leads Stanford with 28 goals on the season.
 
Fellow sophomores Mitchell Mendoza (3), Marco Stanchi (2), and Spencer Rogers (2), and senior Kyle Weikert (2) as well as junior Sam Pfeil (2) also contributed multiple goals for the Cardinal in the win. Junior Justin Roberto and freshmen Bennett Williams and Dylan Woodhead added single goals for Stanford.  
 
Freshman Andrew Chun played the entire match in the cage for the Cardinal, posting nine saves.
 
Stanford returns to action this weekend, as the Cardinal hosts No. 6 Long Beach State on Saturday and San Jose State on Sunday. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. PT at Avery Aquatic Center.
