Cardinal Quartet Honored By MPSF

STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Blake Parrish was named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) First Team on Tuesday, to highlight four members of the Stanford men's water polo team recognized in the group's postseason awards.
 
Parrish was joined on the All-MPSF teams by juniors Cody Smith (second team) and Oliver Lewis (honorable mention), and freshman Bennett Williams (honorable mention). All four members of the Cardinal were first-time MPSF selections.
 
A driver, Parrish led Stanford in scoring this season, with 48 goals on the year. He finished second in the MPSF in scoring with an average of 2.29 goals per game. The sophomore scored at least one goal in 18 of Stanford's 21 games with multiple scores in 14 contests. He registered a career-high seven goals in the win over Santa Clara during the year.
 
Smith finished second on the Cardinal roster with 37 goals on the year. The total was sixth-best in the MPSF with an average of 1.76 goals per game. Smith recorded a career-best five goals on three different occasions this season against California, Pepperdine and Chapman. He found the back of the cage in all but two matches on the season, posting multiple scores in nine contests.
 
Williams made an immediate impact in his first season on The Farm, finishing the year with 21 goals. The total ranked fourth on the roster. His 1.0 goals-per-game average was fourth among all true freshmen in the MPSF. Williams posted multiple goals in six matches, with a career-best three scores in the win over San Jose State.
 
Lewis was active in front of the cage, averaging 10.08 saves per match on the year. The junior posted a career-best 16 saves against USC in a home match in September. He started 16 matches in goal for the Cardinal overall, with a 7.75 goals-against average. Lewis recorded double-digit saves in 11 contests on the year.
 
Stanford, ranked sixth in the latest national poll, concluded its season 13-8 overall with a fourth-place finish in the MPSF Tournament last week. Seniors Adam Warmoth and Kyle Weikert will be missed by the program. The pair contributed to the Cardinal's success each of the past four seasons.
