STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford senior Erica McCall was named to the five-person preseason All-Pac-12 Team as voted on by the media who regularly cover the conference's women's basketball teams it was announced Thursday.
An All-Pac-12 pick as a junior and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team selection, McCall started all 34 games in which she appeared last season and averaged 14.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 30.9 minutes, including 19.5 points on 51.7 percent shooting and 10.3 rebounds in four NCAA Tournament games.
She improved as the season progressed and in Stanford's last 10 games averaged 20.3 points on 55 percent shooting, 9.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks and was named espnW National Player of the Week on Feb. 29. McCall was 10th in the Pac-12 in scoring, fifth in rebounding, third in blocks and fourth in field goal percentage. She finished 13th in the nation and second in conference with 18 double-doubles and tied for third in Stanford single-season history in blocks (66) with Chiney Ogwumike and Joslyn Tinkle.
Earlier this week, McCall checked in at No. 23 in espnW's preseason list of the best women's college basketball players in 2016-17.
The Bakersfield, Calif. native was joined on the preseason All-Pac-12 squad by Kristine Anigwe (California), Jordin Canada (UCLA), Kelsey Plum (Washington) and Sydney Wiese (Oregon State).
Stanford was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 Preseason Media Poll, garnering 219 points and four first-place votes. UCLA was the choice to win the league, totaling 233 points and 13 first-place votes. Washington (194 points, one first-place vote), Arizona State (175 points, one first-place vote) and Oregon State (164 points) rounded out the top five.
No. 11 Stanford begins its 2016-17 season when it hosts UC San Diego in an exhibition on Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. A free live stream with Kevin Danna and Ted Enberg as well as free live stats will be available on GoStanford.com.
