STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Abrahm DeVine and freshman True Sweetser earned top-eight finishes this past weekend at the FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships in Windsor, Canada.
In the 400-meter individual medley, DeVine (4:06.02) qualified for the final heat and finished eighth. Two weeks ago at the Texas Invitational, DeVine (1:43.02) won the 200-yard individual medley and finished third (3:42.15) in the 400-yard individual medley. The sophomore was an All-American in both events for the 2015-16 season, and was named preseason 2016-17 All-America in the 400 IM.
Sweetser (14:35.51) qualified for the final heat of the 1500-meter freestyle, finishing sixth. At the Texas Invite, Sweetser swam an NCAA A-cut (14:35.04) to finish second in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
This week, freshman Cameron Thatcher is set to compete at the USA Diving Winter National Championships in Columbus, Ohio from December 15-21. The championships will be used to select the United States roster for the 2017 World University Games, 2017 FINA Grand Prix meets and the 1-meter spot for the 2017 World Championships.
Stanford wrapped up its Fall season with a strong showing at the Texas Invitational. The Cardinal returns to action January 6 when it hosts Pacific, opening Pac-12 action when it travels to face Arizona State and Arizona January 20-21.
