Wire-to-Wire

STANFORD, Calif. – Erica McCall notched her third consecutive double-double and No. 11 Stanford led wire-to-wire in beating UC Davis 68-42 on Sunday.
 
The Cardinal partnered with Nike N7 and wore turquoise uniforms against the Aggies to honor Native American Heritage Month. Turquoise represents harmony, friendship and fellowship in Native American culture.
 
Stanford (8-1) scored the game's first six points and never trailed. The Cardinal was up 20-8 after a first quarter in which it shot 66.7 percent and held UC Davis (5-2) to 16.7 percent. Stanford made eight of its first 10 attempts from the floor, including a perfect 4-of-4 start from McCall. The senior ended up scoring 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with a season-high 13 boards.
 
UC Davis pulled with eight early in the second quarter when Rachel Nagel made a layup with 7:00 until the half. Stanford answered with a 12-0 run over the next 4:18 and held a 36-20 edge at the break.
 
On a day when its 3-point shots weren't falling, the Cardinal dominated down low. Stanford was just 3-of-19 from behind the arc, but outscored the Aggies in the paint 47-10. Freshman Nadia Fingall contributed a career-high eight rebounds and the Cardinal pulled down 54, its highest total since Dec. 19, 2015 against Cornell (54).
 
Stanford also struggled at the line, going 9-of-24 (.375), its worst percentage since also making 37.5 percent (6-of-16) at USC on Dec. 20, 2006.
 
The victory increased Tara VanDerveer's career total to 988. She is 12 away from joining Pat Summitt as the only NCAA women's basketball coaches with 1,000 career wins.  
 
Stanford now has two weeks off for its customary finals break. The Cardinal returns to the court at Tennessee on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT in a game televised on the SEC Network.
