STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford captain Lili Thompson snagged a pair of weekly honors on Monday following No. 16 Stanford’s double-digit victories over No. 25 Washington and Washington State. The junior guard, who averaged 28.5 points per game in the two wins, earned her second career espnW National Player of the Week nod as well as her fourth-ever Pac-12 Player of the Week award.
Thompson averaged 28.5 points per game and shot 63 percent from the field (22-of-35) and 71 percent from the 3-point line (10-of-14). She scored 41 percent of Stanford's points (57) as the Cardinal cruised to a 69-53 win over the No. 25 Huskies on Friday night and a 69-52 win against the Cougars on Sunday afternoon.
Against UW on Friday, Thompson scored 17 of her game-high 27 points in the first quarter. She made six of her seven shots in the period, was a perfect 5-of-5 from deep and single-handedly outscored Washington (17-13) in those opening 10 minutes. Thompson also tied a career high with seven rebounds in the win.
She did herself three better on Sunday, ripping off a career-high 30 points. Thompson scored 24 in the second half on 9-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-5 from deep. As a team, Washington State scored 25 points on 8-of-27 shooting, including 2-of-8 from behind the arc during the same period.
The Cougars whittled their deficit to six on Borislava Hristova's free throws with 3:48 left in the game, but the Cardinal scored the final 11 points of the game, with nine courtesy of three Thompson 3-pointers, to win going away.
It’s the second espnW National Player of the Week award of Thompson’s career. Last November, she was honored after averaging 26.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in Stanford’s games against No. 1 Connecticut and No. 10 Texas. Her conference accolade is her league-leading third of the season and the fourth of her career.
