Dudley Delivers Five

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Katie Dudley scored a career-high five goals and No. 3 Stanford broke the game open with 10 second-half tallies to win at No. 13 UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday afternoon, 16-5.

Stanford’s sophomore had scored two goals in a game six times in her career, but exploded for five goals against the Gauchos, scoring twice in the first, twice in the third and once in the fourth. Her output matched the Cardinal’s single-game high this season, tying Kat Klass’ total from March 5 at San Jose State.

UCSB jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Dudley brought her team back even. Gurpreet Sohi put Stanford up 3-2 with a goal at the 12-second mark of the opening quarter, but the Gauchos scored the first two of the second to take a 4-3 lead.

Jamie Neushul notched her two at 6:10 and 2:07 to push her team back in front before Madison Berggren added another Stanford strike with seven seconds until the break gave the Cardinal a 6-4 halftime lead.

The second half was all Stanford (15-2). The Cardinal scored 10 times and allowed just one UCSB goal at the 2:12 mark of the third quarter. The Gauchos didn’t find the back of the cage for more than 10 minutes to end the game. Julia Hermann made eight saves for the Cardinal.

Stanford returns home to make its 2016 television debut on Saturday at 11 a.m. when it hosts No. 9 Arizona State in MPSF action. Kevin Danna and Chris Dorst have the call on Pac-12 Networks.
