RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The 11th-ranked Stanford women’s golf squad concluded play Wednesday in the SDSU March Mayhem at The Farms Golf Club by falling to sixth-ranked UCLA, 4-1, to finish fourth in the 16-team match play tournament.

Second-ranked USC won the title by topping Arizona, 4-1.

Junior Casey Danielson secured the only win for the Cardinal, beating Hadas Libman, 4 and 2.

After scoring three-straight victories, senior Lauren Kim sustained her first defeat by dropping a 4 and 2 decision to Lilia Vu.

Stanford posted victories against Texas State and Arizona State in a tiebreaker, then lost to second-ranked USC on Tuesday afternoon.

“We just didn’t quite get it together,” said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women’s Golf. “We had to fight hard on Tuesday to get into the semifinals. We were out there until dark on Monday and had to come back and play six more holes.”

Walker cited several positives from the trip.

“Lauren played great and we saw glimpses of what Casey can do,” Walker said. “She tied Llnnea Strom of Arizona State, one of the best players in the world. Plus, match play was good for us and should help us prepare for the NCAA Championships.”

Stanford returns to competition April 3-5 at the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Country Club in Napa, California.
