Cardinal Falls to USC

LOS ANGELES - No. 36 Stanford suffered its second loss of the weekend Friday afternoon in a 6-1 loss to No. 9 USC.

The Cardinal (10-6, 2-2 Pac-12) seized a 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point, but was unable to hold off the Trojans (13-1, 3-1 Pac-12), who have won three straight matches.

Yale Goldberg and Sameer Kumar opened up the match by outlasting Jake DeVine and Thibault Forget 6-3.

The doubles point was secured on court as Stanford’s top duo of Tom Fawcett and Maciek Romanowicz posted a 6-4 victory over the 38th-ranked pairing of Nick Crystal and Laurens Verboven.

USC then swept all six singles spots, although Stanford was competitive at almost every spot in the lineup.as Nolan Paige, Michael Genender and David Wilczynski all forced third sets in their matches.

Stanford returns home this week to host Pac-12 action with Oregon and Washington set to face-off in Taube Family Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
