Stanford and Cal Clash

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 15 Stanford men’s rowing will meet No. 2 California in the 83rd annual Big Row Saturday at Redwood Shores.   

The race course is located at the address: 3 Lagoon Drive, Redwood City, Calif. 94063

From US-101 take the Ralston Ave. exit and head East. The course will be 0.6 miles on the right hand side. Admission is free of charge.

The Cardinal last competed at the Redwood Shores course two weeks ago with the varsity eight defeating Wisconsin, Santa Clara and Hobart.  

Stanford faced California earlier this year at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay. The Cardinal took fourth place in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity eight. Cal captured the Grand Final in the second varsity eight and third varsity eight, and placed second in the varsity eight.

In last season’s Big Row, California captured victories in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity eight.

Stanford last defeated California in the varsity eight race in 2013, capturing the Schwabacher Cup with a time of 5:31.2 on May 4, 2013.

Following the Big Row, Stanford will travel to Seattle next Saturday (May 7) to compete in the Windermere Cup, joining the host Huskies the Russian Men's National Team, Cambridge University Women's Boat Club, and the University of San Diego women’s team during the prestigious event on Montlake Cut. The Pac-12 Championships will take place Sunday, May 15 at Lake Natoma.
