STANFORD, Calif. – In a showdown of two of the top-six women’s rowing programs in the nation, No. 6 Stanford and top-ranked California will clash in the 83rd annual Big Row at Redwood Shores on Saturday (April 30).

The race course is located at the address: 3 Lagoon Drive, Redwood City, Calif. 94063

From US-101 take the Ralston Ave. exit and head East. The course will be 0.6 miles on the right hand side. Admission is free of charge.

Racing gets underway beginning at 9 a.m. The full schedule of racing is below.

Both Stanford and Cal will wear special uniforms in honor of former Cal coxswain Jill Costello, who lost her battle with lung cancer in 2010. Stanford will don pink tank tops with a “sea foam” green ribbon (Jill’s favorite color) and the Stanford “S” on the front and “Team Jill” written on the back.

The Cardinal will close the regular season against the team it faced in its season opener on the Redwood Shores course. Stanford split its four races against Cal in the Pac-12 Challenge on March 26, capturing the varsity four and second varsity four races. The Golden Bears recorded the win in the varsity eight race by less than three seconds (6:15.6 – 6:18.0). In the second varsity eight race, California won with a time of 6:22.90 to Stanford’s time of 6:28.98.

Stanford and California also met in the Grand Final of the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four of the Lake Natoma Invitational two weeks ago. The Cardinal varsity eight (6:16.38) placed second to California (6:13.13), finishing ahead of then No. 1 ranked Brown (6:18.39).

In last season’s Big Row, California captured victories in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four.

Stanford won the 2014 Big Row, capturing all victories in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four.

Following the Big Row, Stanford will travel to Gold River, Calif. to compete in the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday, May 15, on Lake Natoma.
