Cardinal Dispatches Ducks

STANFORD, Calif. – Racing the rain, an amped-up head-to-head that came down to the final match went the way of No. 42 Stanford Friday afternoon as the Cardinal took a 4-2 win from No. 36 Oregon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

With weather impending, the match only played singles on the day which the Cardinal (11-8, 3-2 Pac-12) came out hot in, taking straight set wins in the Nos. 6 and 5 with points being delivered by Maciek Romanowicz and Sameer Kumar.

The Ducks (16-4, 2-2 Pac-12) came back with a win at No. 3 from Thomas Laurent, and at No. 4 from Jayson Amos, but eighth-ranked Tom Fawcett came through again at No. 1 winning a three-set battle against No. 120 Daan Maasland to make it 3-2.

David Wilcyznski gave the crowd a thriller at No. 2 to decide it as he and Simon Stevens both claimed tiebreak wins in the first two sets before Wilcyznski turned on the heat in set three to rip off with a 6-3 win to clinch the match.

Stanford continues its Pac-12 slate as it hosts No. 30 Washington Saturday afternoon. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
