STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s rowing will field two boats in the 2016 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships as entries were announced on Wednesday.
The Cardinal earned an automatic berth in the IRA Championships by placing third as a team in this past weekend’s Pac-12 Championships.
The 2016 IRA Championships will take place on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey, Friday – Sunday, June 3-5.
Stanford will field a varsity eight and a varsity four in the 2016 IRA Championships. The Cardinal’s varsity eight, ranked No. 14 in the latest USRowing Coaches Poll, will be one of 24 entries in the national regatta.
Also competing in the varsity eight event at the IRA’s will be Boston, Brown, California, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Drexel, Florida Institute of Technology, George Washington, Harvard, Hobart, Navy, Northeastern, Oklahoma City, Oregon State, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Santa Clara, Syracuse, Temple, Washington, Wisconsin, and Yale.
The Cardinal varsity four is one of 29 entries in the IRA Championships. Stanford is joined by Boston, Brown, California, Colgate, Holy Cross, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Drexel, Fairfield, Harvard, Jacksonville, Loyola, Marietta, Marist, Milwaukee School of Engineering, MIT, Navy, Northeastern, Oklahoma City, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Santa Clara, Temple, Washington, Washington College, Wisconsin, and Yale.
The varsity four captured a bronze medal in last year’s IRA Championships, also held on the West Windsor, New Jersey course. The varsity eight placed 18th overall in last year’s IRA Championships. Stanford has placed in the top 20 of the varsity eight every year since the results go back to 1999.
