STANFORD, Calif. – Top-ranked Stanford lightweight rowing looks to defend its National Championship at the 2016 Intercollegiate Rowing Championships June 3-5 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
The Cardinal will field three boats in the national regatta, racing the varsity eight, varsity four and double.
Stanford’s varsity eight is undefeated this spring, coming off a victory in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. In the eight, Stanford will face Boston, Georgetown, MIT, Princeton, Harvard Radcliffe, and Wisconsin.
In the varsity four, Stanford will face Boston, Fordham, Georgetown, Massachusetts, MIT, Princeton, Harvard Radcliffe, Tulsa, Villanova, and Wisconsin.
In the double, Stanford will face Boston, Dartmouth, Loyola (Md.), Oklahoma City, Princeton, Harvard Radcliffe, Tulsa, and Wisconsin.
Stanford captured the 2015 IRA National Championship, sweeping titles in both the varsity eight and varsity four, on the West Windsor, New Jersey course. The national title was the fifth in the last sixth seasons for the Cardinal program. This was the first year that a team trophy was given for the lightweight women as the previous national champion was the winner of the varsity eight. Stanford was the first school to sweep the lightweight women’s varsity eight and varsity four events at the IRA Championships. The win in the varsity four was the first in program history.
