STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford was honored with four selections among this year’s All-Pac-12 Team, as announced today by the conference office.
Junior Carol Zhao (8-1 overall, 8-1 duals) was named to the first team for the second straight season and honored for the third season overall. The 2015 NCAA Singles runner-up and three-time All-American, Zhao missed the entire fall and much of the spring as she had been training with the Canadian National Team and competing in pro tournaments. Stanford owns an 8-1 record with Zhao in the lineup and is 6-4 without. Even with the abbreviated season, Zhao is ranked No. 25 nationally in singles.
Fellow juniors Taylor Davidson (20-12 overall, 10-7 duals) and Caroline Doyle (21-10 overall, 12-6 duals) were appointed to the second team. Davidson, who was named to the first team as a sophomore and honorable mention as a freshman, anchored the Cardinal at the No. 1 spot for the bulk of the season in Zhao’s absence and claimed her first career singles crown by winning the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in October. Davidson is ranked No. 41 nationally in singles.
A second-team honoree last year, Doyle has held down the No. 3 spot in the lineup, owns a 10-6 mark against Pac-12 opponents and is 4-3 in three-set matches. Doyle is ranked No. 61 nationally in singles.
Senior Krista Hardebeck (23-6 overall, 17-1 duals) received honorable mention accolades, earning All-Pac-12 honors for the third time in her career. Stanford’s leader in overall and dual victories, Hardebeck enjoyed a 17-match winning streak that spanned nearly three months, has compiled a 12-1 record against Pac-12 opponents and has won four of five three-set matches. A member of the 2013 NCAA title team, Hardebeck has been playing at the No. 4 spot and is ranked No. 98 in singles.
Stanford (14-5, 9-1 Pac-12) will be making its 35th consecutive postseason appearance when first round competition gets underway at campus sites next weekend.
The Cardinal, seeded No. 15 overall in the postseason draw, hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (24-0, 11-0 Southland) at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13, in its NCAA Tournament opener. Texas A&M (16-10, 7-6 SEC) will face Denver (21-2, 6-0 Summit League) at 11 a.m. in that day’s other match.
Taube Family Tennis Stadium will play host to NCAA first and second round competition on May 13-14. All seats are general admission. Single-day tickets are $8 (adult) and $5 (student/youth/senior). Tickets are available starting on Wednesday, May 4, either in person, by calling 1-800-STANFORD or visiting www.gostanford.com. Phone orders will be available at will call.
