NCAA Singles, Doubles Picks

STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Taylor Davidson will represent Stanford in both the singles and doubles competitions of the 2016 NCAA Championships.

An All-Pac-12 Second Team selection, Davidson (20-12 overall, 10-7 duals) anchored the Cardinal at the No. 1 spot for the bulk of the season. Ranked No. 41 nationally in singles, Davidson claimed her first career singles crown by winning the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, defeating Fresno State’s Mayar Sherif Ahmed 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. Davidson, who owns nine wins over nationally-ranked opponents, also reached the quarterfinals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.

Joining Davidson in doubles will be fellow junior Caroline Doyle. The nation’s sixth-ranked duo, Davidson and Doyle (22-7 overall, 9-5 duals) have captured three doubles crowns already this season (USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships consolation, NCTC Classic). Davidson and Doyle, who won 13 of their first 14 matches of the season, are also 10-4 against Pac-12 opponents.

Doyle is listed as the eighth alternate for the singles field.

Stanford’s No. 2 duo of freshman Melissa Lord and junior Carol Zhao has been tabbed the second alternate for the doubles draw.

Only the selections were announced on Wednesday afternoon, while the individual brackets will be released in two weeks at the conclusion of the team competition.

The individual portion of the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for May 25-30 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with singles play kicking off on May 25 and the doubles competition getting underway on May 30.
