TUCSON, Ariz. – Seniors Erica McCall and Karlie Samuelson combined for 36 points, Stanford shot 40 percent from 3-point range and the No. 13 Cardinal won at Arizona 77-55 on Sunday afternoon.
McCall scored 19 and grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds for her sixth double-double in Stanford's last eight games, Samuelson led the 3-point barrage with five makes from deep and freshman Nadia Fingall scored 12 on 4-of-5 shooting.
Down one after the first quarter, Stanford (12-2, 2-0) pulled away in the second, outscoring Arizona (9-4, 0-2) 20-5. Tied 23-23 after a Breanna Workman layup, Stanford closed the quarter on a 17-3 run over the final 8:20. The Cardinal limited the Wildcats to just 1-of-9 shooting in the period while it made 7-of-17 and led 40-26 at the half.
The Cardinal was held scoreless the first four minutes coming out of the break until Marta Sniezek buried one from distance with 5:49 on the clock. Arizona cut its deficit to nine on two occasions, but each time Stanford answered. Sniezek canned her second 3-pointer to put the Cardinal up 12 late in the period, 49-37, and Stanford would extend its lead in the fourth.
Sniezek scored all nine of her points in seven third-quarter minutes, made 3-of-4 from the field and both of her attempts from behind the arc.
Fingall would help Stanford close out its first desert sweep since 2014 by hitting all three of her shots and both of her free throws to score eight in the final frame. The freshman upped her field goal percentage to .652 by going 4-of-5 on Sunday.
Stanford, which shot 29.9 percent from 3-point range in its first 11 games, has been better of late. In its last three, the Cardinal has gone 26-of-53 (.491), including a 10-for-25 (.458) effort against the Wildcats.
The Cardinal dissected Arizona to the tune of 21 assists on 27 made baskets, its third game this season with at least 20 assists.
Stanford has now won six straight conference games dating back to last season and 28 of its last 29 against Arizona.
The Cardinal returns home to host Oregon (10-4, 0-2) on Friday, Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. in a game televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
