STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford dropped a 91-52 decision to No. 18 Arizona on Sunday evening, closing a three-game homestand at Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal (8-6, 0-2 Pac-12) ran into a hot-shooting Wildcats (13-2, 2-0) team that finished 62.5 percent from the field overall and 71.4 percent from three-point range for the game.
"This might have been our best game so far, because we shot the three-point shot so well from three," Arizona head coach Sean Miller said. "The only thing we didn't do tonight is take care of the ball. We had some turnovers that you don't want to have on the road, but I think the other things we did really well offset that."
Junior Reid Travis led Stanford with 11 points and eight rebounds, while fellow junior Dorian Pickens added 10 points for the Cardinal.
Rawle Alkins' game-high 19 points led five Arizona players in double figures. Dusan Ristic added 16, and Lauri Markkanen and Kobi Simmons added 15 apiece.
The Wildcats raced out to a 17-6 lead five minutes into the contest, before the Cardinal responded with a 9-0 run to cut it to two points (17-15). Back-to-back three-pointers from Rawle stopped the Stanford run as the Wildcats began to build their advantage.
Arizona closed the half on a 13-2 run to push its lead to 49-30 at the break. The Wildcats continued their hot shooting in the second half, connecting on 58.3 percent of their shots, including 5-of-7 from three-point range, to out-score the Cardinal 42-22 in the second period.
"Our team was confident coming into this game," said head coach Jerod Haase. "Our practices really have been good, but it didn't carry over to the game. Things went well for Arizona, they are an elite level team."
Stanford returns to action next week with a trip to Los Angeles to face USC on Thursday and UCLA on Sunday. The Cardinal's matchup against the Trojans will tip at 8 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Networks, with Sunday's game at UCLA set to take place at 5 p.m. PT on FS1.
