EVANSTON, Ill. – Despite coming off a match that saw the 18th-ranked Cardinal come back from losing the doubles point, a repeat wasn't in the cards Saturday as Stanford fell 4-1 to Georgia Tech at the ITA Kick-Off.
Stanford (2-1) started off strong on the day as the 15th-ranked duo of Sameer Kumar and Yale Goldberg completed a 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot, but the Jackets (2-1) surged back at No. 3 with a 6-4 win of their own to knot it. In a turning point on the day, GT's Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar were just able to best Tom Fawcett and David Wilczynski in a match that went down to the wire, 7-6 (7-1).
The Jackets didn't waste any time in singles as Brandon Sutter fell in straight sets in the six spot before Andrew Li put Georgia Tech on the cusp with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sameer Kumar at No. 2.
David Wilczynski put the Cardinal on the board as he defeated Chris Yun 6-3, 7-5 in the number five position. Carlos Divar played the clincher for GT as he defeated Jack Barber at No. 4 6-2, 7-5 to close out the win.
The Cardinal will face Memphis next to wrap the weekend as it takes on the Tigers at 8 a.m. PT Sunday. Live stats of the match can be followed here.
