STANFORD, Calif. – No. 20 Stanford added its third sweep of the year with a shutout of the Saint Mary's College Gaels Sunday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (5-1) came out strong out of the gates, ripping past the Gaels (3-2) in doubles with Tom Fawcett teaming up with Michael Genender to lead the way with a 6-2 win at No. 2 as Stanford swept the doubles in rapid-fire fashion.
Freshman William Genesen made his second dual appearance and led the Cardinal in singles action as he dispatched Matis Bot in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. David Wilczynski put the Cardinal on the cusp at the No. 3 position as he defeated Calvin Jordaan 6-1, 6-2 to make it 3-0 Stanford.
Tom Fawcett closed out the win for the Cardinal for his ninth career clinching point as he closed out another straight set win with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Nash Vollenweider. Roy Lederman added another straight set win before Brandon Sutter and Michael Genender battled to tiebreak wins to complete the sweep.
Stanford next hosts San Francisco on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m.
