STANFORD, Calif. – Teaghan Cowles was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Cowles had an outstanding debut weekend in six games at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona. She hit .619 (13-for-21) on the weekend with seven RBIs, seven runs, two stolen bases and a triple. Cowles' 13 hits is the most among Pac-12 players.
Cowles had at least one hit in every game, including multi-hit performances in four of the six games. She scored at least one run in five of the six contests.
Cowles scored the game-winning run in a 3-2 seventh-inning comeback against Western Michigan. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, she hit a one-out single to load the bases then rounded the bases to score the winning run.
Cowles went 4-for-5 against Purdue, tying her for the fifth-most hits in a single game by a Stanford player in program history. Her four hit effort helped Stanford generate 21 hits in the game, the most in a single game in over 10 years.
It is the first conference award for a Stanford since Kayla Bonstrom was named the Player of the Week on May 13, 2013, and the 55th conference award in Cardinal history.
