STANFORD, Calif. - Quinn Brodey, Tristan Beck and Colton Hock were all named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list on Wednesday. Stanford is one of just three teams with three players up for college baseball's premier award.
The Golden Spikes Award, which goes to the top amateur baseball player in the country, will be presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation on June 29 in Los Angeles. There were 55 players, from high school and college, named to the watch list. Stanford, TCU and Florida each had a national-best three selections. The midseason watch list will be unveiled on April 12.
Hock was just named to the Stopper of the Year preseason watch list by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The Bloomsburg, Pa., native was honorable mention All-Pac-12 last year as he led Stanford with six saves and a 2.03 ERA. Hock was also a Top 100 prospect by Perfect Game (No. 7), D1Baseball.com (No. 12), and Baseball America (No. 13), and No. 18 on MLB.com's Top 50 list.

Brodey was a Pac-12 honorable mention selection in 2016 and led the Cardinal in home runs (7), RBI (41) and tied for the team lead in hits (61). Brodey has been named among the Top 100 prospects by Perfect Game (No. 54), D1Baseball.com (No. 51), and Baseball America (No. 78).

Beck has earned several other preseason All-America accolades, including first-team recognition from Perfect Game, second-team honors from College Sports Madness and third-team accolades from Collegiate Baseball News. Last season, Beck was named first-team All-Pac-12, led Stanford starters in ERA (2.48) and strikeouts (76), and was top 10 in the Pac-12 in each category.

Stanford opens the season this weekend at Cal State Fullerton. As a team, Stanford was ranked in all five preseason Top 25 polls this season. Eleven freshmen will join Beck, Hock, Brodey and a Stanford squad that returns nearly its entire starting lineup, all of its starting pitching and the majority of its bullpen. Last season on The Farm, the Cardinal finished 31-23 overall -- the 38th winning season in 40 years under Coach Marquess -- and 15-15 in conference play (t-6th in Pac-12).
The 2017 season marks the final 41st and final year with Coach Marquess at the helm of the Cardinal. As the Pac-12's all-time wins leader, Coach Marquess is second among all active head coaches, and fourth in Division I history with 1,585 career wins.
Individual and season tickets are still available for the #FinalSeas9n. The 2017 home opener is slated for Feb. 24 against Kansas.
