MORAGA, Calif. – Kelsey Murray tied a career-best five goals to lead the 15th-ranked Cardinal Tuesday afternoon as it put on an offensive showcase to top MPSF foe Saint Mary's College 22-5.
The first half saw Stanford (2-2, 2-0 MPSF) go on a scoring spree as Kelsey Murray put away five goals in the half with Elizabeth Cusick claiming a hat trick. The freshmen started making marks as they jumped in on the scoring melee with Daniella McMahon, Jensen Neff and Mikaela Watson all scoring their first collegiate goals to head into the half up 16-0.
SMC (0-2, 0-2 MPSF) tried to scrap back into the game in the second half after Maggie Nick opened the half with her second goal of the game. SMC fired back with two goals of their own, but Charlotte Ward answered with two goals and another from Sandy Smith before SMC ripped off three consecutive goals to make it 20-5.
That was all the defense would allot for the Gaels as Suzy Emerson and Mikaela Watson closed out the attack for the Cardinal, who out shot SMC 37-16 on the day. Allie DaCar held a shutout for the first half against the Gaels before allowing only two goals on the day.
The Cardinal remains on the road this week as it travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State. Game time is set for 3 p.m. PT on Friday, Feb. 24.
