STANFORD, Calif. – Sixth-ranked Stanford will oppose third-ranked Trinity on Friday in the first round of the Women's College Squash National Championships at Princeton University in New Jersey.
Competing in the A Division Howe Cup Bracket, the Cardinal will look to reverse an earlier defeat in January, when Trinity prevailed 9-0 on its home courts in Connecticut. Three Stanford players – No. 1 Casey Wong, No. 2 Chloe Chemtob and No. 7 Lucy Rowe extended their opponents to four games.
"It's a tough matchup but we're excited to play them again," said Cardinal head coach Mark Talbott.
Stanford has been idle since beating Williams 9-0 in Cambridge, Massachusetts on February 12.
However, the team has made steady progress this season and looks for a strong showing in the three-day championship.
"I think everybody is playing as well as they can," Talbott said. "Chloe has a little bit of a hip injury, so I'm hoping she is okay. We'll see how she feels."
Freshmen Wong and Chemtob are scheduled to compete at No. 1 and 2, followed by senior CC Ho at No. 3, junior Sarah Bell at No. 4, junior Christie Huchro at No. 5, sophomore Tara Shannon at No. 6, junior Tatyanna Dadabbo at No. 7, sophomore Lucy Rowe at No. 8, sophomore Anna Marie Manning at No. 9, senior Bailey Bondy at No. 10 and senior Julia Olson at No. 11.
Friday's match begins at 11:30 a.m. PT. If the Cardinal win, they advance to the semifinals on Saturday against No. 2 Pennsylvania or No. 7 Cornell at 11:30 a.m. PT at Princeton. If they lose, they face the Pennsylvania-Cornell loser on Saturday in the consolation semifinals at 8:30 a.m. PT.
As always, Talbott will bring his entire team. Eight of his 14 players are underclassmen.
"It's been a good year and everybody has worked really hard," he said. "They have good chemistry and respect each other. Great camaraderie."
