IRVINE, Calif. – Maggie Steffens collected her fourth hat trick of the year, one of six Cardinal with a multi-goal effort, and No. 1 Stanford began the Barbara Kalbus Invitational with a 16-5 win over No. 22 CSUN on Friday morning.

Makenzie Fischer, Dani Jackovich, Kat Klass, Cassidy Wiley and Mackenzie Wiley each scored twice for Stanford, which improved to 9-0 overall and set up a meeting with the winner of No. 8 Michigan and No. 9 UC Santa Barbara tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.

Fischer got Stanford going when she scored 20 seconds after a McKenzie Pollei exclusion early in the first quarter. Jackovich (2:54), Steffens (1:38) and Jordan Raney (0:45) followed with goals while Gabby Stone made two saves and didn't allow one through in her quarter of work in the cage.

Katelyn Fairchild, who led the Matadors with two goals, scored to begin the second, before Klass answered with her pair of strikes at 4:26 and 3:26. CSUN's Madeleine Sanchez converted a penalty with 3:15 until the break, but Katie Dudley's goal with 1:29 left gave Stanford a 7-2 advantage at the half.

Stanford and CSUN went back and forth with the first four scores of the third quarter, but Fischer and Mackenzie Wiley rattled the cage as the period closed to push the Cardinal in front 11-4.

Steffens and Cassidy Wiley each tacked on a pair of goals in the final period, Mackenzie Wiley tallied her second of the game and the Matadors managed only a late strike with 60 seconds left from Lindsey Garcia.
