STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford began its spring season with top-three finishes this past weekend at the Charleston Women's Championship in Charleston, South Carolina, and the McIntyre Team Race in Redwood City, California.
Senior captain Maeve White and sophomore crew Meg Gerli led the charge in Charleston, winning the A-division with 38 points over 10 races to help the Cardinal finish third. The pair started with eighth- and fifth-place finishes, but five top-three finishes over the last seven races vaulted them to the top of the division.
In the B-division, sophomore All-American skipper Martina Sly and freshman crew Madeline Bubb finished ninth.
Stanford settled for a runner-up finish at the McIntyre Team Race, finishing behind Santa Barbara via tiebreaker. The Cardinal and the Gauchos each finished the weekend with a 15-2 record, but Santa Barbara's head-to-head record over the Cardinal proved to be the difference.
Stanford's skippers included junior All-American Will La Dow, freshman Jacob Rosenberg, senior captain Reinier Eenkema van Dijk and sophomore William Marshall. Sophomore All-American Kathryn Booker, Kennedy Placek, senior All-American J.P. Cannistraro, freshman Taylor Kirkpatrick and sophomore Cassie Obel served as crews.
Stanford returns to action March 11-12 when it competes in three regattas – the Navy Spring Women's Trophy in Annapolis, Maryland, the Charleston Coed Championship in Charleston, South Carolina, and the St. Mary's Team Race in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
